5 things to consider when buying an e-bike

More and more people are choosing to ditch the car and get around on a bicycle saddle with an energised battery to help them along. Have you decided to buy an electric bike? If so, here are 5 points to keep in mind to make sure you choose the right e-bike for your lifestyle.

1. How do you plan to use your e-bike?

The first thing you should consider before getting an e-bike to call your own, is how it will be used. Are you planning to use it for everyday errands after work? Then a classic model like our Ambassador series might be suitable. Do you want to swap your commuter card for fresh air or perhaps mix the two? Then you might want to consider buying a bike from the Flexer range. Like riders, our e-bikes have different strengths and you can read more about them here.

2. What will you use your e-bike for?

Another important question to ask before buying an e-bike is what you intend to use it for when you get it home. Think about it – will you need storage on the bike to carry your groceries or gadgets after a trip to the mall? Check out the Loader range. Planning to take your bike with you on the commuter train? You know the Flexer range of folding e-bikes, right? All our bikes come with various features that can help you on your journey, wherever you may end up.

3. What kind of terrain do you plan to ride?

In addition to portability, different e-bikes are designed for different situations and lifestyles, and since they are designed for different purposes, you should make sure you know what kind of terrain you plan to ride. All Ecoride e-bikes are designed with our Nordic climate in mind, but there are big differences between forest trails and city streets. Are you one to take your e-bike on an adventure? Check out our Tripper series. Does the universe not extend beyond the city centre? Then perhaps a Flexer or Ambassador model will suffice.

4. Have you thought about getting insurance or an insurance supplement?

As you probably already know, assuming you’ve started looking around for an e-bike that suits your needs, an e-bike is an investment. The e-bike in general and its battery in particular are prone to theft, so it may be worth making sure your insurance policy covers any unforeseen events. Maybe it’s also worth renting a space in your nearest bike garage if you don’t have room for your e-bike at home?

5. Do you know how to take care of your e-bike?

Taking care of an e-bike is obviously important, and in addition to taking care of the heart of the bike, its trusty battery, there’s a lot to consider. But don’t worry – oiling sensitive parts, taking the battery in at night and taking your e-bike in for a yearly service will go a long way. Take a look at our article giving you all the information you need to take the best care of your e-bike here, and don’t forget to check out the e-bike picker for personalised help.
